Ziarah II (2021)

  • The literal meaning of Ziarah is a journey to the unknown, to self, or to a sacred place. However, in Indonesia, the term Ziarah is often associated with a visit to the grave or cemetery, to visit our late ancestors or a beloved relative as a reminder that the transience of life and death is an ever-present thing. Why is this activity only found in humans? Yogo postulates the question as we live in a world where humans possess domination and control. The animals we consume do not have power over their fate, or is it because humans cannot accept our own death? The work speaks of an encounter between life and death.
